[ CHARACTER INFORMATION ]

Name: Heiwajima Shizuo
Age: 23-24
Gender: Male
Fandom: Durarara!!
Timeline: From just after Episode 17 – after the fight against Saika's children.
History: Shizuo had a perfectly normal childhood. He had a close bond with his younger brother, loving parents, and no trauma in his life whatsoever. This only served emphasise how strange his violent temper was – there was no underlying cause for it, it just was. Shizuo had no excuse for all that anger, and that only served to make him think it was all due to something very wrong with him. Shizuo and people, as it turned out, didn't always get along very well. Due to his tendency to throw desks at people if they annoyed him, he was a rather lonely child except for his younger brother who never really feared him – despite nearly getting a refrigerator to the face when they were little – and that weird kid in his middle school class, Shinra, who wanted to study him in the name of science. (He's still asking. Shizuo still ignores him.)

Then there was the incident with a shopkeeper when Shizuo was younger; she was just a nice lady who treated him and Kasuka kindly. She smiled at them, she worried over Shizuo's constant injuries and gave him and his brother free bottles of milk, telling them that it would make their bones grow stronger. Shizuo wasn't exactly used to being treated so nicely, and he may or may not have ended up taking a bit of a shine to the young woman. So it was understandable he completely lost it when he saw her being harassed by a group of mobsters. Only, things went very wrong, and in his blind rage Shizuo ended up not only hurting the mobsters, but the shopkeeper as well. After that, he couldn't face her again, and avoided seeing her. He couldn't even distinguish between those who treated him kindly, and those who treated him cruelly when he was angry, and that was something he found very difficult to deal with.

A few years later, Shizuo entered highschool; Shinra still tagging along, trying to figure one exactly what made him tick. It was around this time he was first introduced to Celty, Shinra's supposed 'future wife' and one of the few people Shizuo came to see as a real friend – someone who didn't fear him, and treated him like an ordinary person. It was also around this time he met the person who would become the utter bane of his existence – Shizuo had entered highschool with no desire to continue all the fighting and grudges he'd had to deal with throughout his younger years, and things seemed to be going kind of okay until Shinra had the bright idea of introducing him to Orihara Izaya. Shizuo decided pretty quickly, (Shinra's shining introduction of the other boy as a complete bastard 'in a good way' aside), that he hated Izaya's guts. Luckily, the feeling was rather mutual and after a brief attempt to slaughter each other where they stood, Izaya proceeded to make the rest of Shizuo's highschool days living hell. Izaya manipulated Shizuo into fighting with different gangs, implicated him in situations that weren't his fault and made him enemies left, right and centre. Shizuo was very grateful for this. So grateful in fact, he made it his personal goal to beat Izaya's face to a bloody pulp whenever he saw him.

After highschool, and despite Izaya waltzing off to go live in Shinjuku, Shizuo still found himself dealing with the aftermaths of Izaya's meddling. Following a string of failed jobs (usually thanks to his temper), Shizuo found a job as a bartender, and decided to do his damn best to stick this job out (with a little help from Kasuka, who gave him enough bartender outfits to start a shop in the hopes he'd stay in the job for a long time) until, of course, Izaya managed to fuck everything up by implicating him in a crime and bringing half of Ikebukuro's police force down on him. Needless to say, despite having his innocence (and Izaya's status as a massive bastard) confirmed, he lost his job as a bartender. However, fate decided to throw him a little luck, and not long afterwards he was approached by an old school friend – Tanaka Tom – who worked at a debt collection agency.

Tom, who really just wanted to avoid too much conflict in debt collecting, had to do some persuading at first, as Shizuo really didn't want to a take a job that would involve hurting people on purpose – he wasn't dumb enough not to realise he'd be the one doing any beating, if beating were required. Tom really just wanted to use Shizuo's now rather infamous name as an incentive to scare people into paying back their debts – no violence necessary – and after the persuading, Shizuo accepted the job. And, hey, he must be doing something right, because he's still working that job in the present day – probably helps that Tom understands his complete lack of control over his temper and is lenient with it, even though he prefers it if they get through a collection without someone flying through the air.

Character Personality: Shizuo is, essentially, violence masquerading as a lanky blond guy in a snappy bartender outfit. Shizuo's temper is infamous throughout his home town of Ikebukuro, mostly because he is literally incapable of controlling it. Pissing him off is incredibly easy to do seeing as he has many, many berserk buttons; all of which are shiny, red and probably have a big tempting sign that say 'DO NOT PRESS' hovering above them. He also gives very few warnings before he snaps and heavy objects start flying through the air like confetti – he simply removes his cigarette from his mouth, snaps it, and crushes it beneath his foot. Then everything goes to shit. Shizuo is completely unable of controlling his anger, so he does the next best thing and just rolls with it until he's calmed down – the only thing that goes through his mind is violence, killmaimcrushKILLDESTROYKILLkillKILLkillKILL. He practically ends up on automatic, and nothing short of sheer destruction will get him to stop (unless, of course, your name happens to Izaya Orihara. In which case nothing short of your dead corpse, preferably on fire and possibly crushed will get him to calm down.) - the only real option is to get the hell out of the way until it all blows over.

The real Heiwajima Shizuo, the man behind the uncontrollable rage and anger, is actually very different when not riled up. Ironically, he abhors violence, and by extension isn't too fond of himself for his non-existent grasp on his own rage. He's quiet and reserved, and surprisingly gentle when not hefting vending machines through the air. This is mostly because, after many years of first hand experience with exactly what happens when he completely loses it, he's been trying to detach himself from other people and limit his interactions with society on the whole. He doesn't like hurting people, and as he can't change his short temper, he tries to do the next best thing. However, Shizuo isn't the kind of person who can exist without interacting with other people from time to time – he gets on well with his 'boss', who also happened to be his middle school sempai, Tom - someone who knows him well enough to get the hell out of the way when he's angry. He finds Ikebukuro's resident urban legend, the Black Rider Celty Sturluson, to be a calming and relaxing person to be around and talk to, and enjoys her company. You could possibly class Shinra Kishitani as a 'friend' as well, when he's not gleefully requesting to study Shizuo's body to see how he manages his amazing feats of strength. He also has a close relationship with his younger brother Kasuka, although he doesn't see him very often due to Kasuka's job as an Idol.

Whereas other people want excitement in their lives, Shizuo just wants to live normally – to hold down a job, earn money, not have to deal with Izaya, and to maybe get through a day without blacking out in rage. He's a simple person, and doesn't really try to be anything else. Complex explanations, the why and hows of a situation don't bother him. If he can walk after being shot, then he'll get up and walk. Stab him in the leg with a pen? He probably won't notice until you do it again. Try and manipulate him along with every other person in the city for your own entertainment? He's probably too busy trying to smear your face into a wall with a trash can Izaya, so don't bother. He likes honesty; if you're honest with him, he'll return the favour, and unless you do something to really annoy him he'll treat you amiably. Just remember to run when he gets mad.

Character Abilities: Shizuo is strong. Seriously strong. Picking up a full sized vending machine and throwing it, or using a motorcycle like a baseball bat are child's play to him, and there's more to it than just strength. Shizuo's body just never knew when to stop – whereas a normal, everyday person would be able to tell when they were exhausting their physical limitations and stop accordingly, Shizuo never had that. He could push himself above and beyond his physical limits with predictable results. He probably spent more time in hospital nursing broken bones than an average child would spend in a playground having fun. Essentially, he had two choices: learn to control his temper so he didn't black out and push his body past his limits, or say screw it and build up his body's strength and resistance to deal with his mindless, uncontrollable rage. Shizuo may not be the smartest person, but he isn't stupid. He was very much aware the first option was impossible, so he chose the latter option. As a result, he is as close to invincible as a human being can get: hit him with a truck? He'll just get back up and keep going. Stab him with a knife? You'll be lucky if it goes 5cm under his skin. Stick a pen through his hand? He'll knock you out and then idly wonder about how to stop the bleeding once it's removed. Nothing phases him. His threshold for pain, if he even feels pain any more, is off the charts.

Character Weaknesses: Physically, Shizuo has very few weaknesses. He can take bullets, stabs to the chest, take on gangs of possessed, knife wielding people and being hit by a truck like water off a duck's back. Most of Shizuo's weaknesses are mental, rather than physical – he has a severe complex with himself, and hates almost everything about himself and his insane strength. He hates hurting people, and abhors violence, but that's all he seems able to do. He's a lonely person because of this, and can be a bit socially awkward. He's also not the sharpest tool in the shed; he's certainly not stupid, but he's not academically smart by any stretch of the word. He has good instincts though.

[ WEAPON SECTION ]

Why your character should be a Weapon: Shizuo, while overall a nice guy who just happens to be hampered by superhuman strength, is undeniably a violent person when he loses his temper. He's unable to control his actions, and his thought process just dissolves into 'killkillkillKILLKILLKILLKILL'. Given this, it's probably better for the people of Shibusen in general that he's a weapon – one the one hand, he'll have weapon abilities available to him constantly, which would be pretty amusing and useful for his moments of rage, but HE'D be the one who would have to give over control to a meister at the end of the day, rather than running the risk of harming people around him and his own weapon partner if he were a meister.

What is your character's Weapon form?: Shizuo tends to fight with unorthodox weapons in Durarara!! so he'd probably be an unorthodox weapon. His weapon form is a large stop sign – it's slightly bigger than a normal stop sign, and can be held somewhat like a scythe. There's a couple of bends in the metal pole, and the sign itself would be sharper than usual, like a blade. The angrier he is when transforming, or when in weapon form, the more power he has, but on the offset he becomes heavier and far more difficult to wield.

[ SOUL INFORMATION ]

Soul Description: Violent, lonely, caring, awkward, strong, perceptive.

Soul Appearance: Shizuo's soul is bright blue, with the outline of his hair around the top. There are a small pair of sunglasses, a shade darker than his soul over where his eyes would be. Overall, it seems like a laid back soul – it doesn't hide from people trying to detect it, and doesn't seem to care if people try and judge his strength based on it, however it fluctuates between this laid back, blasé state and an incredibly irratic and violent one. In these stages the soul appears to grow in size, not by much, but it almost seems to swell and the outline becomes harsh, with violent spiking, symbolising when Shizuo is in one of his infamous rages. The change between these two states can be split second, just like Shizuo's actual mood.

[ SAMPLES ]

First Person:

[Audio]

[There are a few beeping noises as Shizuo seems to be messing around with his communicator. Eventually, there's a small exclamation of something between surprise and victory.]

So that's the map of this place, huh?

[There's silence again, before Shizuo suddenly speaks.]

I don't get this. It sure as hell ain't Ikebukuro, but I don't get how I could just end up in another world. I know that...scythe guy explained it all, but he shouldn't give up his day job. Lecturing isn't his thing. It's too much to take in.

[Suddenly, there's a sound almost like the transfiguring of a human to a weapon, and Shizuo emits a rather frustrated and violent sounding growl.]

And it would REALLY help if my arm would stop turning into a goddamn STOP SIGN. How the hell are you meant to control this shit anyway?!

[The frustrated growls and curses continue for a few seconds before the communicator cuts off with the sound of someone snapping it shut and damn near breaking it in half in the process.]

Third Person: [TAKEN FROM AN OLD APPLICATION TO WONDERLAND WARS]

It was cold.

At least, that was the first thing Shizuo thought.

It was windy, was the second thing. He grumbled slightly under his breath, scrunching his eyelids as he sat up, before pulling his sunglasses off to rub at his eyes.

It was cold, it was windy and he'd fallen down some hole that had come out of nowhere. All in all, it was definitely that damn louse's fault – he'd been chasing after the bastard when that hole had just appeared out of nowhere as he turned down an alleyway. If Izaya hadn't been in Ikebukuro in the first place like he kept warning him not to be, then he wouldn't have had to chase the little shit and wouldn't have fallen into that hole. Simple.

Shizuo replaced his sunglasses and hauled himself to his feet, not bothering to check for injuries. There wouldn't be any anyway. He had more serious things to think about, like where the hell was he anyway? Falling down a hole wasn't a big deal – weird shit happened all the time in Ikebukuro (he should know, he was classed as the cause of at least a quarter of the weird stuff anyway) – but falling down a hole and onto the top of a damn tall tower?

That was weird, even by his standards. Shizuo stepped forward to the edge of the tower, and peered over the top of his sunglasses at the towers surrounding the one he was on. Twelve all together, kind of like a clock. If there was any symbolism behind that, he really didn't give a damn. All he was certain of now was that he really wasn't in Ikebukuro any more, and there was now the more pressing issue of how was he going to get back there?

Hissing an annoyed sigh through his teeth, Shizuo patted down his pocket for his cigarettes. There was a couple of minutes of increasingly agitated patting before he let out a slightly strangled yell and smashed the hand (now balled into a fist) nearest the wall against the wall in question, creating an almighty crunching noise and a spider web of cracks and falling plaster as he just managed to stop himself putting fist-sized hole through it.

He'd lost his cigarettes.

Fucking great.
